Nginx + Passenger + Rails - 403 vietato

Question

Ci sono tonnellate di persone che hanno lo stesso problema o simili, ma tutte risolte con soluzioni diverse. Sto avendo difficoltà a capire cosa c'è di sbagliato nella mia configurazione qui.

Ho appena installato Nginx 1.4.1, Passenger 4.0.7, Ruby 2.0.0p247 e Rails 4.0.0.

Nota:

• Ho installato nginx @/home/deployer/nginx
• Sto usando rubyenv
• Ho un record di CNAME per www.example.com che punta a myapp.cloud.com

ho aggiunto questo blocco alla fine di ~/nginx/conf/nginx.conf

Ho un public Symlink in /home/deployer/sites/www.example.com che punta a /home/deployer/src/myapp/gateway/public/

Sto avendo 2 problemi:

1. Se non lo faccio configurare un percorso predefinito root per la mia applicazione Rails, ho non vedo la pagina standard Rails Welcome quando vado alla radice del mio sito. Invece, continuo a ricevere la pagina 403 Forbidden. Ma, se posso aggiungere un index.html nella cartella public, io vedo che la pagina viene eseguito il rendering quando vado http://www.example.com/

2. Se ho impostato il percorso di default root a controller#action, non vedo tale controller-action in fase di rendering quando ho vai alla radice del mio sito. Invece, questo è l'errore che ottengo in ~/nginx/logs/error.log:
