vim mette ulteriore spazio per ogni carattere accentato

Question

Ogni volta che digito un carattere accentato in vim, ad esempio: é, viene inserito uno spazio aggiuntivo come é<space>.

Piccola animazione gif che illustra il problema: Link here. Si noti che nella registrazione sullo schermo non sono mai in grado di premere la barra spaziatrice eppure appaiono.

È lo stesso identico problema descritto in this SO question e in Super user question, ma la soluzione proposta per entrambi - set encoding=utf-8 - non funziona per me. L'ho inserito sia in .vimrc che in una sessione in esecuzione e nessuno ha funzionato.

In MacVim, che emette anche encoding=utf-8encoding=utf-8, questo problema non si verifica.

Nessuno dei suggerimenti dei commenti ha funzionato per me, quindi ho continuato a scavare sul problema io stesso. Alla fine si trattava solo di deselezionare un'impostazione iTerm.
